The body of a 60-year-old woman was found at Wolfgat beach, along Baden Powell Drive on Sunday October 15.
The beach is situated between Mnandi and Monwabisi resorts.
According to police, the woman was bruised on her left arm and face. Mitchell’s Plain police station spokesperson said the she was wearing a bronze two-piece dress and had grey hair. He added that it is suspected that the incident had occurred recently but that the cause of death was unknown. The police have opened an inquest docket and are investigating.
NSRI Strandfontein station commander Vaughn Seconds said at 4.44pm the NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for assistance from the SA Police Services reporting to be at Wolfgat Nature Reserve where the body of the woman was found below the cliff on the beach.
A sea rescue craft was launched, he said, “and on arrival on the scene, NSRI found the police and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services in attendance”.
“The body of a female was taken onboard the sea rescue craft and transported to the NSRI sea rescue base in Strandfontein where the body of the female was taken into the care of the SA Police Services and the Forensic Pathology Services.
“It is not known to NSRI how the body of the deceased female came to be on the beach at Wolfgat Nature Reserve,” he said.

A 28-year-old man was assaulted with a pick axe and other objects after he had allegedly broken into a house Gloriana Street, Eastridge, around 6.07am, on Monday October 16.
When the police arrived at the scene, they saw a group of people in front of a house.
Captain Williams said residents had entered the house and assaulted the suspect, who sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The police are investigating a complaint of attempted murder.
Mitchells Plain Acting Station Commander Colonel Jan Alexander said he condemned the actions of the community “in the strongest terms”.
“Citizens cannot take the law into their own hands. The police must be called to effect an arrest if a suspect has been caught, and the matter allowed to run the course of justice.
“I understand the frustrations of the community, but we have a Constitution and legal systems with processes in place. People must control their emotions and do the right thing by calling the police to deal with perpetrators. All arrested persons must be brought before court who have the authority to dispense justice,” he said.
A 28-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of ammunition without a licence in Lebombo Street, Tafelsig, at about 10pm, on Saturday October 14.
The police found nine live 9mm rounds in his possession. He is expected to appear in court soon.
