Woman knocked down, dies

A woman died after being knocked down by a car in Langeberg Street, Tafelsig, and dragged for about 50m before being dislodged from the car.

According to police, the woman was walking on the pavement on Thursday June 23 when she was hit by the car.

Preliminary reports suggest it was a white VW vehicle. The driver fled the scene.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

On the same day, at around noon, a woman was killed by a train under the Spine Road bridge in Rocklands between Mitchell’s Plain and Kapteinsklip stations.

The woman is unknown and was wearing a pink jersey, black jeans and a pair of white Levi takkies.

Police say it is believed the woman walked into the path of the oncoming train.

An inquest has been opened for investigation.

* In other news, six armed men robbed a Montclair family at their home of a television, laptop, cellphone and wallet on Tuesday June 17 at 9.15pm. The men fled in a white vehicle.
