It has always been the 9Miles Project’s desire to feed the masses, says co-founder Sher-Neil Savel, and now, in the midst of a crisis, they are able to provide more than 1 000 vulnerable people in Camp Road, Strandfontein, with a warm meal every evening.
Three hundred children also receive breakfast every morning.
“Such a mammoth task is not possible without the support and dedication of others, and we would like to particularly thank HOSA (Hope Southern Africa) and HandsandFeet for partnering with us, pooling resources, offering logistical support, and for providing every resident with masks and hand sanitiser,” Ms Savel said.
“Thank you to the committed community members who are cooking night and day to ensure that meals are prepared, dedicated volunteers who are ensuring that social distancing and sanitising happen in the queues, the #StrandfonteinCAN Community Action Network for mobilising local donations of goods, and of course, our very own food manager who is doing a sterling job of managing all the moving parts,” she said.
