Mitchell’s Plain community-based organisation, Unchain the Plain made its way to Lemoenspoort farming community between Worcester and Villiersdorp for their Youth Day celebrations last week.
More than 100 children participated in the event on Wednesday June 16.
“The level of poverty is much greater and yet we were inspired by humility and gasvryheid,” said Mark Skriker, chairman of Unchain the Plain.
They partnered with Gift of the Givers as well as friends and family of Unchain the Plain who donated to provide some food to the locals, party packs for the beautiful children and some much-needed sporting equipment. They also did a rugby coaching clinic for the youngsters and imparted some technical knowledge. “Die talent was op ‘n level. In this area rugby is a way of life and talent is inherent,” said Mr Skriker.
