The shooting of two teenagers has prompted Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF) to plan operations with the police to prevent any gang revenge attacks.
Mark Brookes, Lentegeur CPF chairperson, said the tuck-shop in Madeliefie Street in Lentegeur, is known to be a meeting place for gangs and “unsavoury groups”.
A 17-year-old died at the scene and an 18-year-old died, en route to hospital, after being shot
The teens were shot on Sunday September 11 at about 7.30pm.
Mr Brookes hopes to meet with Colonel Elizabeth Hermanus, Lentegeur police station commander, to plan a way to prevent similar attacks.
“We want to stop or eradicate this kind of behaviour,” he said.
He said a gang member from Beacon Valley had crossed the Lentegeur boundary road of Morgenster to shoot the teens.
Colonel Hermanus said she spoke the mother one of the boys, who said her son was not a gangster.
She could not confirm whether the shooting was gang related.
“We are investigating the shooting,” she said.
