Police found a horde of suspected stolen goods and arrested a 27-year-old Beacon Valley woman, following a burglary at a business.
The back door of the business on the corner of 10th Avenue and Bravo Street was forced open, at about 7am on Monday May 6, and goods – including batteries, engine oil and spray paint – to the value of about R80000 were stolen.
About an hour later, officers investigating the crime, searched a house in Polo Street, where they arrested the woman after finding suspected stolen property, including a motorbike and power tools.
Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 40-year-old man and seized 29 mandrax tablets from a house in Honolulu Street, Tafelsig, on Monday May 6, at 9.40pm.
Mitchell’s Plain police have called on the public to come forward with information about a shooting in Tafelsig on Sunday that left a 43-year-old man dead.
Police found the body laying in Stella Way at 11.05pm after they received a call of a shooting taking place.
The man sustained wounds to his head and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. One cartridge was found on the scene.
The motive for the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made yet.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Sibongile Mantyi of Mitchell’s Plain SAPS’ Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, at 082 522 3102.
Also on Sunday, the body of an on-duty security guard was found in Woodlands High School control room at 6.30am. He was stabbed twice in the chest and once in the head.
Captain Ian Williams, spokesman for Lentegeur police station, said nothing was stolen and the motive of the murder is unknown. No arrests have been made.
On the same day, police also arrested a 19-year-old gang member in Beacon Valley on a charge of possession of prohibited firearm.
After receiving a complaint about a shooting in Chevrolet Crescent, on Sunday May 12 at 8.24pm, police searched the suspect and found a black Glock pistol with a filed off serial number in his possession. The firearm was empty.
The suspect appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday May 14.
While the police were arresting the gang member, another man and members of the community started becoming violent and began throwing stones at the police. The police were compelled to use stun grenades to quell the violence.
Police arrested a 44-year-old man for public violence. He appeared also in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
A white Kia Rio with registration number FZ04HDGP, stolen in Lingelethu West, Khayelitsha, was recovered by police in Irene Close, Tafelsig, at 10pm on Saturday May 11.
Police arrested two men aged 25 and 34 on a charge of possession of stolen property.
Police also recovered a black imitation firearm in the possession of the suspects.
They appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday May 14. The vehicle was taken to SAPS’ impound lot in Bellville South.
