Michael Pat Pietersen, councillor for Ward 116
It was the highlight of my life getting into permanent politics and serving the people in such a challenging environment.
I learned a lot, to work with difficult and different characters, the community pushed me to the limit but this in turn made me a strong and excellent leader. I appreciate it.
All the robust engagement with civil society – with different views and different demands.
I am proud to say it is an honour to serve my people.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Lord Almighty for his mercy and grace.
I want to thank senior councillors for appointing me.
I was appointed as chairperson for area base oversight in east region, which will have oversight of and monitor six sub-councils. The role is to ensure optimal service delivery, including budgets, Integrated Development Planning (IDP), local tourism, small business and customer service in Strand, Somerset West, Gordon’s Bay, Kuils River, Blackheath, Khayelitsha, Eersterivier, Mandalay, Montclair, Montrose Park and parts of Beacon Valley.
The Organisational Development and Transformation Plan (ODTP) of the City of Cape Town is a new initiative which will give effect to a brand-new model of area-based service delivery, which will speed up service delivery in all departments.
I am still the ward councillor with leadership responsibilities in the City.
I want to call my new role eagle eye, which represents the eagle’s good eyesight and sharpness.
