Caradale Primary School teacher Ezra Carelse won third place in the national Woolworths Teachers’ Day competition. With him is pupil Kamvelihle Jack, who nominated Mr Carelse by writing a letter detailing his compassion and willingness to go the extra mile to support at-risk pupils. As the Western Cape primary school and third place national winner, Mr Carelse won a laptop, a R10 000 store giftcard, a R5 000 cash prize and enjoyed an all-expenses getaway with a partner to Sandton, in Gauteng. Kamvelihle received a R5 000 store giftcard and the Rocklands school was awarded a R10 000 cash prize. The UN World Teachers’ Day commemorates the work of teachers and their contributions to society annually on October 5.
