Mitchell’s Plain residents took a stand against drug dealers and gang activity on Monday night. In a show of solidarity, they lined AZ Berman Drive, between Highlands Drive and Spine Road, as well as Spine Road, from 6.30pm to 8pm, holding placards and candles. It was a prelude to today, Wednesday October 3, when crowds are expected to gather on the corner of Keizersgracht and Christiaan Barnard streets, in Cape Town, from 10am, to stage a march to Parliament and the provincial legislature – demanding to know what government is doing to combat crime. The march is organised by Western Cape Shutdown – a group of more than 20 civil society organisations – who will call for an end to gangsterism, crime, violence, the abuse of women and children, rape and murder.
