Basil and Irene Pretorius, of Tafelsig, are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
They met at a dance in Vasco in 1956 and got engaged three years later
They had a small wedding ceremony on July 20, 1963.
“We often went dances at the civic centres back in the day,” said Ms Pretorius, 81.
“Now the legs are a bit old,” said Mr Pretorius, 84.
He said it was important for couples to understand one another. “When you get cross, walk away and make up,” he said.
From Vasco they moved to Bonteheuwel, Elsies River and Bishop Lavis. They have been in Tafelsig for about 38 years.
“We don’t have any children but we do celebrate each other,” said Ms Pretorius.
