Four of the five suspects who have escaped from the holding cells at Lentegeur SAPS last month have been re-arrested.
The men, who were due to appear at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 25 on separate incidents of possession of drugs, robbery with a firearm, theft out of motor vehicle and business robbery, escaped on Saturday January 23 (“Five men escape from custody”, Plainsman, January 27). One suspect, Ikeraam Etalla from Eastridge who is wanted for a business robbery, is still at large.

* A total of 567 people were arrested for charges relating to various crimes, including the possession of illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs by the Mitchell’s Plain SAPS Cluster from Friday February 12 to Friday February 19.
Two firearms, various amounts of ammunition and illegal narcotics were confiscated.
Sixteen tracing operations were done which focused on wanted suspects. Last week 94 houses were searched for drugs, whereby 226 suspects were arrested. Drugs confiscated included 116 heroin units, 719 packets tik, 356 mandrax tablets and 538g dagga.
* A man, 38, was arrested by the Mitchell’s Plain SAPS Tactical Response Team for being in possession of five rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a house in Andes Street, Tafelsig, on Tuesday February 16 at 7.15pm.
* A few days later, on Friday February 19 at 3.20, another 38-year-old man was arrested in the same street for being in possession of a Baby Brown pistol.
Mitchell’s Plain police members were doing a routine vehicle patrol when they noticed the man starting to run when he noticed the police.
He was apprehended in the adjacent Katberg Street where he was hiding in the yard of one of the houses there.
