A Strandfontein surfer was among six South Africans who took top honours for their achievements in the sport last year.
Each surfer received a Sea Harvest Surfing Excellence Award, in recognition of their extraordinary performance and accomplishment in 2017, at a ceremony hosted at the company’s head office in Woodstock on Thursday January 11.
They were presented with certificates and got R10000 each, which will help them to cover travelling and transport costs to surfing contests around South Africa for 2018.
Paul Sampson-Chudleigh, from Strandfontein, is a talented shortboard and longboard surfer, who became the Western Province (WP) Longboard Champion in the junior division last year. He represented WP at the South African (SA) Longboard championships and reached the final of the Tigers Milk Winter Classic in Muizenberg.
He also competed in a number of World Surf League (WSL) events and represented the Sea Harvest Development Academy Team at the SA Junior Championships in Jeffreys Bay.
Paul hopes to win a WP and SA Longboard title in his division and compete in the WSL events, happening in South Africa later this year.
