New CCTV camera was installed on the corner of Spine Road and Seafarer Drive in Strandfontein.
Ward 43 councillor Elton Jansen has set aside R300000 from his 2017/2018 ward budget to cover the costs.
“By the end of this year, all the, major places and areas will have CCTVs installed,” said Mr Jansen, who added that the area was a hot spot for criminal activity.
The next phase will be rolled out at the other entrance to Strandfontein – at Spine Road and Dennegeur Avenue, he said.
Strandfontein Community Police Forum chair Sandy Schuter welcomed the initiative.
“The community believes this is the step in the right direction,” she said. “We are very thankful to the City of Cape Town, as they can now see the area being monitored for everybody’s good.”
The City would like to involve businesses in the hot spot areas to get involved by contributing, as they will benefit from this initiative and add value to it, he said.
