Strandfontein police are calling on the community to report any suspicious vehicles and to join community safety structures.
This comes after two men were arrested in connection with a house break-in in the area.
Station commander Captain David Malong said on Tuesday March 27 at 12.15pm, they were alerted that attempts were made to break in at houses in Strandfontein Village.
The details of the suspected vehicle, a white Hyundai with registration CA 111414, were circulated on social media to inform the relevant neighbourhood watch groups.
At about the same time Captain Malong and Constable Mongezelleli Mtyutyu patrolled the area of Bayview, a hotspot for the so-called crowbar gang house break-ins.
While patrolling, they noticed the car parked in Nautilus Road and approached it.
The driver pressed the hooter and the next moment two men ran out of the property, past the police vehicle.
Captain Malong said the vehicle sped off and got away but one of the men was arrested immediately and the other on Baden Powell Drive by Sergeant Charleton Delis and Constable Mpho Mdau.
The belongings of the property owner in Nautilus Road were recovered but not of the house owner in Strandfontein Village. Televisions were stolen.
The two men are due in court soon.
Sandy Shutter, chairperson of the Strandfontein Community Police Forum, said they are grateful for the speedy response and alertness from the police.
Captain Malong said over the past few months members of the crowbar gang had been driving different vehicles and urged the community to report any suspicious activity in their area.
