In response to the recent flare-up of gang violence in Mitchell’s Plain, SAPS’ Tactical Response Team, Operation Thunder, the Anti-gang Unit, Lentegeur SAPS’ Crime Prevention Unit, Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF), and members of Lentegeur and Mitchell’s Plain neighbourhood watches conducted a joint operation in Lentegeur on Saturday February 9.
They raided a number of properties, among them known drug houses, in the gang infested areas to bring about visibility, said Anthea Van Der Vent, public relations officer for Lentegeur CPF.
“We are pleading with the community to come forward with information on crime activity to
Lentegeur SAPS or Byron De Villiers, chairperson of Lentegeur CPF on 071449 5496,” said Ms Van Der Vent.
Captain Ian Williams, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS communication said, the following arrests had been made between 2pm and 7pm in Lentegeur: at 6.50pm a man, 50, was arrested for possession of drugs, at 5.30pm men, aged 26, 37, and a woman, 35, were arrested for possession of drugs, at 5.45pm a man, 18, was arrested for possession of drugs and at 5.58pm a man, 23, was arrested for possession of drugs in Lentegeur on Saturday.
