Safety campaign launched

Mitchell’s Village Civic Association founder and chairperson, Sulyman Stellenboom launched the Bread Not Bullets Safety Campaign in Tafelsig on Sunday March 24.

The community of Tafelsig gathered at Mr Stellenboom’s home to watch the movie, Ellen, die Ellen Pakkies storie.

Mayor Dan Plato was a guest at the screening of the movie and Tafelsig pensioner Sedick Abrahams was one of the motivational speakers at the event.

Mr Abrahams stabbed his tik-addicted son to death in self defence last year.

He was acquitted in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court last week.

“The Western Cape is flooded with drugs. I am also a victim of crime. My son was murdered in 2017 by a stray bullet and was never a gangster. Our children are dying like flies. I can’t sit still and look at what is happening in our community,” said Mr Stellenboom.
