Eddie Andrews, mayoral committee member for Area South, responds:
My office has requested that the electricity department provide a report, as to why the lights are not functioning and what is planned to address this.
However, this area is one of the worst affected by vandalism in the City of Cape Town.
Problems with electricity infrastructure in this area historically, in most cases, is due to this circumstance.
As such, we would like to reiterate the call to residents to report any suspicious activities near electricity infrastructure to the City’s Metals Theft Unit on 0800 222 771.
Reporting cable theft helps the City and police identify and prosecute those who damage and steal the infrastructure serving our communities.
