Remembering Chad

People attend the memorial service in honour of Chad Arendse.

More than 1000 people packed the Portland High School hall for Chad Arendse’s memorial service on Wednesday June 19 (“Drum major shot dead,” Plainsman, June 21). Retired Beaconview Primary School teacher Winston Arries, who taught Chad, said: “It is sad that we have to see a young person’s life taken away so soon. We will all miss him.” The president of the Western Cape Marching Association, Saeed Ruiters, said they would dedicate a trophy to Chad’s memory in their competition in months to come. Chad’s former classmates, family and friends all paid homage to him.
