The community of Portland Block E1, which covers Golden Gate Way, Westminster Close, Niagara Street, Panama Close, Waikiki Close and Grand Canyon Way in Portland, held a clean-up operation on Saturday September 11.
The neighbours gathered to clean the streets, playgrounds, fields as well as the tar pitch adjacent to the footbridge at the Mitchell’s Plain railway station.
This was done to keep the area clean, as well as to prepare for the interfaith memorial service that they are planning to have on Saturday September 18 in honour of loved ones who have passed on during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was hosted by chairperson Pastor Noel Smit and the neighbourhood.
Mr Smit would like to invite the community and neighbours to join the interfaith memorial service on Saturday. It is requested of those to bring their own camping chairs and candles. For more information contact Jolene Edom on 073 256 6877‬.
