Mitchell’s Plain police officers raided shebeens in Tafelsig and Eastridge, seizing more than 200 litres of alcohol.
Officers with the SAPS Mitchell’s Plain Firearms, Liquor and Second Hand Goods Unit and members of the Social Crime Prevention Unit conducted the operation on Saturday July 21.
Police executed search warrants in Tafelsig and Eastridge after receiving information that liquor was being sold illegally at a number of premises.
At a house in Honolulu Street, Tafelsig, the officers seized more than 156 litres of alcohol and arrested a man, 25, for delivering liquor at an unlicensed premises.
At a house in Vlaeberg Street, Eastridge, police confiscated 33 litres of liquor and arrested a 59-year-old woman for illegally selling alcohol.
Police also arrested a 52-year-old woman for the illegal sale of liquor at a house in Sourfig Street, Tafelsig, and confiscated 48 litres of alcohol.
The suspects were expected to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 23 on charges relating to selling liquor without a valid licence.
