A total of 701 people were arrested for various crimes in the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster last week.
According to police 251 people were arrested for being possession of and dealing drugs, including tik, heroin, mandrax and dagga with a street value of about R37 400.
The cluster includes eight stations; Mitchell’s Plain, Athlone, Grassy Park, Lansdowne, Lentegeur, Philippi, Steenberg and Strandfontein.
The police searched 184 houses for drugs and visited liquor outlets and arrested five people on liquor-related charges. Almost 200 litres of liquor were confiscated. Police confiscated five firearms and ammunition and arrested five people for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Four men are wanted for their involvement in various crimes in Mandalay, Lentegeur, Woodlands and Montrose Park.
One of them pointed a firearm at a woman who was walking in Swartklip Road in Mandalay and demanded her cellphone and money on Tuesday June 19. The man took both the woman’s cellphones and R100, and fled the scene. He is wanted by Lentegeur SAPS on a charge of robbery with firearm. A man was standing outside of a tuckshop in Blombos Street in Lentegeur when two men asked him for a lighter. When he said no, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot him in the right upper leg. The incident occurred on July 3 last year. He is now wanted for attempted murder. A woman was sitting in her vehicle outside her house in Sandbury Street, Woodlands when two men walked towards her, one with a firearm pointed at her. The man demanded that she go into her house and show them the safe. She told them that there was no safe in the house, and thereafter they fled the scene. A woman was on her way home after drawing money from Nedbank, Westgate Mall when a Mercedez Benz pulled up behind her in Cynthia Street, Montrose Park. There were three men in the car, and a passenger pointed a firearm at her and demanded her bag. The man broke her drivers window, took the bag and fled the scene. Money taken is valued to R49 000. The incident occurred last year February 17.
Mitchell’s Plain police have appealed to residents to help them find Ebrahiem Damons and Riedewaan Blaauw who have outstanding warrants of arrest.
