Lentegeur police are looking for two suspects in connection with a carjacking case which took place in Mandalay, in March last year.
According to the police, the owner of the car had left a shop when he was approached by two armed men who took his vehicle.
Police are urging residents to be more alert when parking their motor vehicles, especially when stopping and parking their vehicles in the roads.
Their advice to the community is that all valuable property should be removed from parked cars and they encouraged drivers to ensure that they park in a secure parking area and behind locked gates at night to avoid break-ins.
If you have any information that can help the investigation, call Sergeant Deon Joseph on 072 853 2808.
According to police the largest number of hijackings occur while vehicles are stationary.
Take extra care when your vehicle is stationary alongside the road, while driving into or out of your driveway, while sitting in your car, while stationary at a stop sign or traffic light or while loading and off-loading passengers or goods.
If you are hijacked, police advise that you listen and follow the hijackers’ instruction, do not panic or show emotional distress and remember that any sudden movement could be interpreted as a threat.
Try to remember details of your assailants, such as names, physical details, visible markings, description of vehicle they driving.
Always be aware of your surroundings and use your mirrors to ensure that you are not followed. If you suspect you might be followed, drive to the nearest police station.
