Mitchell’s Plain SAPS have had a busy week with several confiscations for drugs and ammunition as well as arrests, including that of a 17-year-old Tafelsig teen.
On Wednesday March 13, police found 62 mandrax tablets in possession of the 17-year-old in Du Toit Kloof Street, Tafelsig, at 4pm.
Police spotted the teen, who was acting suspiciously and stopped and searched him.
The suspect appeared in court on a charge of possession of drugs on Friday March 15.
In another search on the same day, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS found 17 packets of tik and 11 mandrax tablets behind a couch in a house in Silverman Street, Eastridge, at 6pm after searching the premises.
Police arrested a 23-year-old woman who appeared on a charge of possession of drugs in court on Friday March 15.
The Tactical Response Team found two R5 rounds and three 9mm rounds hidden in a cupboard at a drug den in Beaufighter Street, Rocklands, on Thursday March 7 at 7.30pm. A 56-year-old woman was arrested on a charge of possession of ammunition and appeared in court on Monday March 18.
SAPS’ designated liquor officers arrested a 43-year-old man in Aegean Close, Rocklands, on Friday March 15 when he could not produce a licence for selling liquor. Police confiscated 53.250 millilitres of alcohol.
The suspect faces a charge of selling liquor without a licence.
SAPS Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit members arrested a 29-year-old gang member in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley, on Friday March 15 at 3.20pm for possession of drugs which included 30 packets of tik, 10 straws of tik and five grams of tik.
The police noticed the man coming out from under the washing line at a well-known drug outlet and stopped him and searched the area where the suspect was seen.
He faces a charge of possession of drugs and appeared in court on Monday March 18.
Mitchell’s Plain SAPS station commander, Brigadier Cass Goolam, said building stronger relationships and partnering with the community in the Mitchell’s Plain policing cluster form part of the police’s partnership policing plan. “We need our communities to support us and to take a stand against crime by reporting crime,” said Brigadier Goolam. “If you or anyone you know suffers from drug addiction then please contact the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) for your nearest rehabilitation centre.
“Drugs and alcohol addiction fuels crime such as domestic violence, assault, theft and robbery as addicts are often desperate for money to support their habit. Help is available. Persons found in possession of illegal substances such as dagga will be criminally prosecuted,” he said.
Brigadier Goolam said police will maintain their zero tolerance approach in the combating and the investigation of crime.
