New co-op elected

Arthur Pillay, interim chairman of Mitchell’s Plain Older Persons’ Forum

Mitchell’s Plain Older Persons’ Forum had its last meeting for the year on Wednesday November 27 at Beaconvale Community Frail Care Centre, in Beacon Valley.

Our agenda included the stagnation of the organisation, due to the instability of top structure. We co-opted executives to fill vacant posts, until the next annual general meeting next year.

The meeting was well attended and chaired by forum co-ordinator Fowzia Kader.

Training facilitator Dilsha Ismail gave feedback regarding the challenges the forum has had to overcome in the past.

We are happy to say, elections ran smoothly, and a strong dynamic team was co-opted.

The interim committee is as follows; acting chairman Arthur Pillay, vice-chairwoman Lynda Weber, interim secretary Felicity Abrahams, assistant secretary Frances Schoeman, treasurer Margerie Grovers, additional members Dilsha Ismail, Charles Marumo, Kelvin Bruintjies and Fatima Thomas.

Ms Kader remains the co-ordinator, as she is a staff member at the forum’s meeting venue, the frail care centre.

The forum would like to apologise to all of the seniors of Mitchell’s Plain for the disconnection, and break in communication during 2019.

We encourage all seniors to join a seniors’ club, within walking distance of their residence.

Also clubs should send representatives to attend our meetings in the new year.

All future meetings will be advertised in the Plainsman.

The newly appointed executive would also like to take this opportunity to wish all seniors well over the festive season.
