Leadwood Seniors’ Club held a Mother’s Day lunch at Eastridge educare on Wednesday May 17. The club has 25 members from around Mitchell’s Plain, including Woodlands, Portland, Tafelsig and Westridge. The club was established in 2002 and meets once a week at the Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre library. The members engage in a range of activities such as arts and crafts, knitting and dancing. Co-ordinator Beaty Roberts encourages seniors to join the club, socialise and if there are any issues regarding older persons they willing to assist. “We are like a family in this club, and thought we would celebrate Mothers Day together. Our advice to young people is to respect your mothers, listen to them and most importantly appreciate them,” she said. Ms Roberts said as seniors they also like taking a break away from home. She said they are working on going away to Montagu Springs, and will be hosting fundraisers such as a rummage sale. Ms Roberts is appealing to residents to support the fundraisers.
