A man, 30, was sentenced to nine years in jail nearly five years after he had been arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Daniel Schambreel, who was arrested in Tafelsig in 2017, was sentenced at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate Court on Wednesday March 2.
Mitchell’s Plain police had been patrolling around 4.15pm on November 19, 2017, when they saw a man running away when he saw the police vehicle.
Police gave chase and when they apprehended the man, they found a firearm that had no serial number and a magazine with 14 rounds, on him.
Schambreel was arrested and detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
