Man arrested for possession of imitation firearm

A 40-year-old man was arrested after he was found carrying an imitation firearm at the corner of Hangley Page and Caravelle Street in Rocklands on Monday March 1.

A police detective, who received a tip off of an unknown man who was attempting to rob a business, went to the scene and found the man carrying a black Nike backpack.

The suspect fitted the description given. 

The officers searched the suspect they found an imitation firearm in his backpack. 

The man was taken into police custody on a charge of possession of imitation firearm. 

He is expected to appear in court soon.

Mitchells Plain Station Commander Brigadier Goolam stated that the South African Police Service (SAPS) encourage the community to exercise responsible legal firearm ownership.
