A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Eastridge for dumping rotten potatoes on a public open space.
Law enforcement officers caught the man, who is an illegal informal trader, on the corners of Jakes Gerwel and Wespoort Drive.
They also impounded the vehicle he used.
Officials say they have noticed an increase in cases of dumping expired foods.
Law enforcement spokesman Wayne Dyason said, “The City’s solid waste department was called out to remove the food waste. An unnecessary waste of time and resources given that this person has options provided by the City to dispose of his waste legally.”
