Mitchell’s Plain SAPS arrested a 48-year-old man for attempted murder in Tafelsig on Tuesday January 19.
Police received a complaint of a shooting in Laura Crescent, at 1.55am.
The community pointed out to police the man who had allegedly shot a 34-year-old woman. When they searched the man, police found a silver Star 45 pistol with a magazine and six live rounds of ammunition.
The woman sustained gunshot wounds to her hip and stomach. The man is a legal firearm owner and police said he is not a gang member.
In another case, Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 38-year-old man in Beacon Valley for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Friday January 22, at about 1.30pm.
Police received a complaint on firearms being kept at a house in Cricket Crescent.
When investigating, police saw the man push a blue bag under a pillow in his bedroom. When they searched the bag, they found a Taurus 357 firearm loaded with six live rounds of ammunition.
The firearm was reported stolen in a Cape Town Central case.
Police said the suspect is not a gang member.
