A group of good Samaritans from Tafelsig are doing their best to help their community with a plate of food, when they can afford or have enough donations.
Love and Share Foundation, a registered non-profit organisation, based at 43 Compassberg Street, was founded by chairperson Amiena James who wanted to help feed her neighbours.
Ms James said she has been doing it for more than 20 years, having started when she lived in Manenberg and now in Tafelsig as well.
The foundation attempts to feed about 100 people at least once a week.
“We haven’t got much. Many a time we work from our own pockets. There are so many people without work, no shelter and no food,” she said.
Ms James, her family and the members of the foundation, sell second-hand clothing or do odd jobs to gather a few rands to help cook food or distribute bread.
Her son, musician MJ Star, from the group Khoisan Plasterz, performs at gigs and tries to keep children off the street.
They are in need of pots, gas stoves and ingredients to keep their soup kitchen going.
