The thing is, it sometimes feels that to go to a good show you need to travel, so I was understandably doubtful to find that I needed to travel to Schaapkraal, into Philippi farmlands to go to a show. It didn’t help that this was going to be an unknown artist putting on his first production.
I was more than pleasantly surprised. The was a solid cast of singers and dancers who have very normal “day-jobs”.
Both Charl Hudsonburg and Chadly Jordaan wowed the ladies with their guitar work and their voices were rewarded with loud screams and cheers from the ladies in the audience.
Sure, the environ-ment wasn’t the typical high-end theatre that many theatre goers would expect, but the charm of attending a variety musical show in a converted barn was an experience entirely on its own.
While each of the acts deserve mention, the main act of the evening was Vezz and he obviously had spent a lot of time rehearsing and polishing his act.
He had everyone on their feet. He delivered some covers admirably and performed some of his own work as well.
Unfortunately, this was a once-off event and I was privileged to have been invited, but I know that Vezz is going to be appearing on a stage again soon, along with some other phenomenal artists.
On Saturday August 5 he will be one of the artists in another line-up, this time featuring alongside The Boyz, 4Real, Lady Morgana and more, at Spine Road High.
I’ll definitely be going to the show on the 5th. If you are looking for a good time listening to some seriously good musicians and stomping your feet to the beat of artists of an international calibre, then reserve that date now.
For R100 you won’t be able to get better entertainment anywhere else, I guarantee it.
