Lentegeur drug bust uncovers R40 000 worth of drugs

A total of 582 people were arrested between Friday May 20 and Thursday May 26 in the precint covered by the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster, which includes Athlone, Grassy Park, Lansdowne, Lentegeur, Philippi, Mitchell’s Plain, Steenberg and Strandfontein police stations.

Police arrested261 people for being in possession of drugs and 79 houses were searched.

During these operations, 897.43g of dagga, 1 031 mandrax tables, 516g of tik and 2106.13g of heroin were confiscated.

Police also arrested 60 wanted people.

Two firearms were seized and three suspects were arrested.

A total of 22 people were arrested for domestic violence-related cases.

During police operations at 17 shebeens, liquor was confiscated and three people arrested for illegally selling liquor.

* A woman,32, was arrested for being in possession of drugs worth R40 000 in Elizabeth Crescent, Montrose Park in Lentegeur on Wednesday May 25.

Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit members found 645 units of heroin, 96 whole mandrax tablets with five half tablets, 187 small packets of tik, 33 large packets of tik, 10g packets of tik , a quantity of loose dagga and R1 056.

* Beacon Hill High School pupils visited Mitchell’s Plain police station for Take A Girl Child To Work Day on Thursday May 26.

They were taken on a tour of the station and informed about the fuction of various departments.
