The AJ Foundation has named the first recipient of its scholarship who will receive mentorship as well as financial assistance.

The scholarship was awarded to Selwyn “Junior” Stevens, 14, through the Foundation’s AJ Scholar Initiative which was established to meet the needs of empowerment, upliftment, and sustainability, said Lyndsay Paice, AJ Foundation Student Mentor.

“We are proud to officially announce the launch of The AJ Scholar Initiative and our first ever scholarship recipient, Selwyn Stevens, 14, from Lentegeur,” Ms Paice said.

Selwyn, also known as Junior, is a pupil at Lentegeur Secondary School and an aspiring soccer star.

“We are delighted to be able to walk alongside him and his family through his journey of life,” said Ms Paice.

“We believe in you, Junior, and are so honoured and blessed to be part of your dream team.”

Selwyn said he looked forward to working with the AJ Foundation. “I will work hard to be here. I am very excited to start and thankful to the AJ Foundation for helping me,” he said.

His mother, Chantal Stevens, said she was really grateful for the AJ Foundation’ support, particularly because she was a single mom. “It’s not easy raising kids alone but I’m grateful to God and the AJ Foundation for the opportunity,” she said.
