More than 200 people from Tafelsig received sanitary packs and blankets from Crochet Events.
On Saturday September 5, they handed over 100 sanitary packs, 100 blankets and two boxes filled with various sanitary products for those in need, said Luke Williams, from Crochet Events, which partnered with the community to run a food drive to raise funds for ingredients for a feeding initiative that was handed to the community in July.
“As 2020 and Covid-19 came around, life as we knew it changed. Hearing about the challenges the community faced post-lockdown, it broke my heart.
“A feeding initiative started with the rands and cents of community members for their community. We needed to do something,” said Mr Wiliams.
Mr Williams also partnered with a group of friends who do charity work and go by the name Giving Back 2 Communities (GB2C) to hold a blanket drive for the residents of Tafelsig, asking people to donate blankets instead of giving him presents when he celebrated his birthday on Monday August 10.
This was combined with Crochet Events and GB2C’s annual Women’s Month activities.
“I am blessed to have had the amazing family, friends and community around who supported this great initiative and made an impact in over 200 people’s lives. My heart is with this community and I will continue to do all I can, whenever I can, wherever I can because I can,” said Mr Williams.
