Infant’s death at daycare being investigated

Police are investigating the death of a four-month-old baby at Dolphin Educare in Strandfontein two weeks ago.

Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said they can confirm that Strandfontein SAPS attended to a complaint of a sudden death of a minor at 2pm on Thursday September 14.

“An inquest case was opened for investigation. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” he said.

Spokesperson for Dolphin Educare, Gerard Kemp said they can confirm that the four-month-old baby passed away while laying in a cot.

“We have been in contact with the family throughout and await the outcome of the relevant investigations during this time. SAPS, related institutions, and the Early Learning Resource Unit investigations are ongoing at this time,” he said.
