Dozens of car and spinning enthusiasts showed off their cars in Lentegeur on Saturday June 1.

They were encouraged to take tinned food and clothing for the needy along with them to the Lentegeur sports field.

The event was a prelude to the first legal spinning event which was held in Cape Town on Saturday June 8, after Supporting People In Need (SPIN) got a temporary permit for it (“Spin area planned for ‘Plain”, Plainsman April 24).

Spin’s founder and chairman, Jonathan Schaffers, thanked the City and sponsors for their support and participation.

Byron de Villiers, chairman of Lentegeur Community Police Forum, said they supported the sport and encouraged the youth to get involved.

Mayor Dan Plato and local councillors Goawa Timm and Michael Pietersen attedned the event to pledge their support.
