■ Richard Mckenzie, a DA member of the provincial legislature, held a Human Rights Day event in Tafelsig, on the eve of Human Rights Day on Tuesday March 20. Almost 200 people attended the event and engaged with the police and important role-players in the community. Mr Mckenzie told the community it is important to understand and know your rights.”We need to solidify the community’s relationship with the police. Everybody has a part to play in teaching people their rights and making them familiar with it,” said Mr Mckenzie. They lit a candle of hope and prayed for the community to combat crime in the community as a unit. They partnered with community leaders of Freedom Park, Adielah van Schalkwyk and Herman Bertie from Ward 99, Tafelsig, for the event.
