Tafelsig children played boardgames, netball and soccer under the watchful eye of the police, community workers and volunteers during a school holiday programme at Yellowwood Primary School.
A collaboration Mitchell’s Plain Community Police Forum (CPF) Tafelsig sub-forums, neighbourhood watch members, local police and law enforcement officers; and organisations, including Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Cape Flats, Eden Community Outreach; community workers and Madanies Taxi Association brought 120 children together, where they shared meals, were entertained and learned skills.
During last week they they also received a visit from UWC dental students to address them on hygiene and health care.
Volunteers included youth participants in a masculinity programme, to groom young men into strong independent men and leaders in their homes and community.
The programme included mentors and role models motivating and engaging with the youth to make sound decisions and their behaviour to return to school or attend adult basic education and training classes.
