An 8-year-old girl is receiving counselling after her father presumably drowned while she was waiting for him in their car in the parking lot at Monwabisi Beach.
The girl was found in her father’s car unattended, in the parking lot after he went swimming and never returned.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said a death inquest case had been opened for investigation following the incident where the 34-year-old man drowned on Sunday February 2.
Vaughn Seconds, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Strandfontein station commander, said on Sunday February 2 at 12.14pm, NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated following reports from the City of Cape Town lifesaving lifeguards, at Monwabisi on the False Bay Coast, of an adult male, 34, from Strandfontein who had gone missing in the surf.
Craig Lambinon, spokesperson for the NSRI, said despite an extensive sea, air and shoreline search, no sign of the man has been found.
Police are investigating.
