Beacon Organic Garden at Beacon School for Learners with Special Educational Needs, on Wespoort Road in Westridge, celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday October 28. Magda Campbell, founder of the garden, said it was constantly evolving. Humboldt University of Berlin, in Germany, is contributing to the growth of an indigenous garden, with indigenous plants, grasses, shrubs and bushes that hold particular significance to the local community. Indigenous trees have already been bought and during the next two months students from abroad will be tilling the soil.
