In response to the article “Residents called on to curb dumping”, Plainsman, March 14, funds have been made available for the upgrade of the erf in the 2018/2019 financial year.
The upgrade will include fencing and extra play equipment.
The City’s Solid Waste By-law enforcement unit visited the area on Wednesday March 14, and provided residents with contact details for the unit in the event that they would like to report illegal dumping.
The area has also been added to the list of dumping hot spots for further monitoring.
Reporting illegal dumpers is essential if we are going to be able to tackle this problem. Despite the fact that residents can drop up to 1.5 tonnes of garden and builders’ waste at our drop-off sites for free every day, many will still rather dump illegally unless they are caught and punished.
