More than 100 children attended a fun day hosted by the Joseph and Carol Pillay Seniors’ Project in Caen Road in Strandfontein, on Sunday April 30.
Members of the project entertained the children with games, activities and treated them to lunch and snacks.
The was project established in 2006 and has 22 active members. Joseph Pillay, the founder of the NPO, said its aim was to bring senior citizens together from all walks of life and cultural and religious backgrounds.
The club hosts fund-raisers towards its annual showstopper, a Christmas party, at which they treat 300 seniors.
“We normally have the fun day for the families of the members. This year we extended it for the children of the informal settlements across the road. We would like to thank the sponsors, including the City of Cape Town, for the items,” he said.
MrPillayencouraged residents to support the organisation’s karaokes and high teas which are held to raise funds.
“This money goes towards the Christmas party, for our seniors. It is important that we look after our seniors, they have made a valuable contribution to our society,” he said.
