Frail care centre showcases their work

At the back, from left are Beaconvale Community Frail Care Centre (BCFCC) residents Maud Namane, Rosemary Mashonga, and Igsaan Losper, from Re-Abled and Bradley Johnson. In front are facilitator Charleen Petersen, from Bonteheuwel, BCFCC residents Julia Isaacs, Hajiera Eksteen, Maryanne Meas, and Ricardo Sawyer, from Re-Abled.

The Beaconvale Community Frail Care Centre’s arts and crafts team, who sold dozens of their necklaces, earrings, Christmas cards and charms after just three months of work, held an exhibition of their work at the centre, in Beacon Valley on Wednesday December 7.

Their facilitator, Charleen Petrsen, from Bonteheuwel, comes to teach them on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9am until noon. “I don’t wear jewellery but I love making it,” she said.

Ms Petersen has a passion for serving her community and helping them to be self-sufficient. She donated all of the beads and gut needed for the team to get started, she works casually twice a week and the income of the exhibit will help the crew buy more supplies.
