Mitchell’s Plain police have made several arrests for drug possession and possession of illegal firearms, including imitation firearms and ammunition.
A 21-year-old man was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm in Buttress Street, Tafelsig, on Tuesday September 24 at 11.50pm.
The man threw the firearm onto the roof when he saw the police and started running. They caught him and took him back to the premises where they found a black Glock with serial number LPV 631 and 16 live rounds of ammunition. The firearm had been stolen in Kirstenhof.
The suspect appeared in court on Thursday September 26 on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Earlier that day, at 5.36pm, police arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of illegal possession of drugs after finding 74 mandrax tablets at a house in Fir Street, Tafelsig. The suspect appeared in court on Thursday September 26 on the charges.
The police also arrested a pensioner after finding 86 units of unga, 50 grams of tik, 27 bankies of tik, 20 grams of unga and cash totalling R6 820 when raiding a house in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley, on Friday September 20, shortly after 5pm.
While standing at the door of the house, police noticed a woman taking a plastic bread bag to the bedroom. When they interviewed the suspect, they heard the toilet flush and found a plastic bag with the drugs.
Police arrested the woman, 64, who appeared in court on Monday September 23 on charges of dealing drugs.
They also arrested a 34-year-old Eastridge man in 7th Avenue on Tuesday September 24 at 5pm on charges of the illegal possession of drugs.
The officers spotted the man throwing a clear bag on the ground before he started running when he saw the police approaching him.
When police caught the man, they opened the bag and found 132 mandrax pills and two half mandrax pills.
The suspect appeared in court on the charges on Thursday September 26.
On the same day, September 24, at 5.30pm, police stopped and searched a vehicle in Erica Street,Tafelsig, and found a folded T-shirt on the bonnet of the car containing 95 mandrax tablets. Police arrested a 35-year-old man, who appeared in court on Thursday September 26 on charges of the illegal possession of drugs.
On Monday September 23, at 10.30pm, police caught two men who were running from them in Summit Street, Eastridge. When they caught one of the men and searched him, they found a Mauser firearm with serial number 65299, four rounds in a magazine and a fifth round in the chamber.
Police arrested the 29-year-old man, who appeared in court on Wednesday September 25 on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Officers also arrested suspects in possession of imitation firearms in Tafelsig and Westridge.
On Saturday September 21, at 4.30pm, police found a teen with an imitation firearm in Erica Way, Tafelsig. Police arrested the 18 year old who faces a charge of unlawful possession of an imitation firearm. He appeared in court on Monday September 23.
On Sunday September 22, at 2am, police searched two men walking in Simonsig Street, Westridge, and found an imitation firearm in their possession.
Police arrested the men, aged 28 and 31, on a charge of unlawful possession of an imitation firearm.
The suspects appeared in court on Wednesday September 25.
