Rocklands Friends of the Library hosted an open day at Rocklands library, in Park Avenue, on Friday October 7.
The Friends of the Library is a group of committed library patrons who see to the needs of the community and improve the library.
They have a reading programme, including volunteers who teach children to not only love books but also how to read.
The group also facilitates a book club; and they also lobby the City of Cape Town to assist in improving and sustaining resources at the library.
Yvonne Adams, chairperson of the committee, said they are the voice of the patrons and the link between the library, community and service providers.
She thanked Danny Christians, Ward 81 councillor, Law enforcement, the neighbourhood watch and Rocklands civic centre staff for assisting them with the open day.
Reading programme volunteers meet at the library every Friday, from 2pm until 3.15pm.
The book club meets quarterly but has not yet set a date for the next meeting.
Rocklands Friends of the Library will be meeting on Saturday October 29, at 10am. For more information call 021 378 2440, email rocklands.library@capetown.gov.za, or visit their Facebook page.
