Focus on shebeens and spaza shops

Lentegeur police and other law enforcement agencies, armed with search warrants, clamped down on shebeens and spaza shops during operation Fiela, in search of counterfeit goods on Friday May 5.

Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith spokeswoman for Lentegeur SAPS, said a blue Nissan was stopped and searched at a visible control point along Swartklip Road in Mandalay.

“A .38 special revolver with six rounds of ammunition was found. The suspect, 49, was asked for his firearm licence and produced a licence belonging to his father who died in 2012,” she said.

Warrant Officer Kleinsmith said during the operation two people were also arrested for being in possession of a dangerous weapon after they were found with a knife. “Five people were arrested for drug possession in the Mandalay area during the operation. Crime hotspots were also targeted and several people and cars were searched.”
