A total of 246 Grade 8 pupils started their school career at Spine Road High School in Rocklands on Tuesday January 14, the top performing school in Mitchell’s Plain, which had a 99% matric pass rate for 2019. The school was placed first for its matric pass rate of the area’s 17 high schools. Parents and guardians were elated for their children to attend the school, which also has the distinction for achieving Mitchell’s Plain’s first 100% matric pass rate in 2014 – a feat they have not only repeated with the matric class of 2017, but also improved on, achieving 100% pass rates for mathematics and history that year. Starting off the new year, principal Mark Fairbairn announced to the parents and guardians that the new Grade 8s will be having a normal school day. Staff congratulated the pupils and their parents for making it this far in their schooling career and wished them well.Â
