As Christmas approaches, several communities have taken part in carols by candlelight events. A Christmas fun day was held for the children of Ward 79 at the Beacon Valley community hall on Wednesday December 12. The fun day, which attracted more than 600 children, was followed by carols by candlelight. In Tafelsig, the residents of Rockies Circle held their first carols by candlelight on Sunday December 16. Helene Abrahams from Tafelsig was inspired by her uncle John George who held a carols evening in Lentegeur but when he moved to George, the tradition ended. She felt it fit to bring the carols evening to Tafelsig and bring the Christmas spirit to the children and their families. More than 200 children were given party packets sponsored by Mother of Plain Food Emporium.
