A 77-year-old woman died from smoke inhalation in Orchid Street, Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain this morning.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three firefighting appliances, a rescue vehicle and 14 staff members to the scene.
They found a semi-detached dwelling alight and they were told that one person was unaccounted for.
Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said: “A subsequent search of the property led to the discovery of the body of a 77-year-old woman who had been overcome by smoke.”Â
The fire was extinguished at 1:45am.
The scene was handed over to the police for an investigation.
