Educare centres visited the Mitchell’s Plain fire station to celebrate the International Firefighters’ Day on Wednesday May 4.
“It was very exciting for the children. They learned the stop, drop and roll technique which they enjoyed. The firefighters were awesome,” said principal of Paradise 4 Kids from Lentegeur, Nazeema Abrahams.
“Thank you to the City of Cape Town for this. It was really an awesome experience and a very educational one. To see what a firefighter really does… I salute these guys. Being away for 24hours from their families, saving others, they need to be recognized more and appreciated. Thank you to Mitchell’s Plain Fire Station for their friendly welcome and allowing us to see all the action behind the scenes. We will definitely visit them again,” she said.
Principal of Kiddies First Daycare in Westridge, Hayley Goliath said: “They took us on a tour of the fire station. The children got to go into the fire trucks, they were able to experience using the water pipes, see where the firemen stay when on duty but their highlight was talking on the loud speaker at the front desk. The children had tons of fun and we look forward to the next visit.”
